11 Top New True Crime Podcasts of October 2025

I’m back and WOW do I have some excellent true crime podcasts for you this month so let’s get straight into it!

1. First Conviction - RTE Documentary On One & RTE Investigates.

First on the list is an excellent new Irish true crime podcast from the team at RTE Documentaries on One and RTE Investigates, the same team that brought us many of my previous featured Irish true crime podcasts such as Stolen Sister, The Real Carrie Jade, Where is Jon?, Finding Samantha,Runaway Joe and The Nobody Zone and honestly I am so jealous if you have not listened to all/any of these already, you have so many great true crime podcasts in your future!

In this latest six-part series the team are investigating how a couple living in Ireland (Sayeed and Halawa) ended up imprisoned for a crime they did not commit against their child:

“September 2016 is where this story begins. A young married couple are at home in Dublin on a Friday morning with their two young children. Having changed her nappy, their 21 month old daughter turns, runs and falls. Her cries startle her parents who go to comfort her. As they pick her up, they notice she’s bleeding. It’s only after four days in hospital that Sayeed and Halawa begin to understand they’re in real difficulty. No one appears to believe them. Within a week of arriving to hospital with their injured daughter, they’re sitting in a police station, answering questions about what happened.” (Source here).

This is one of the most infuriating true crime stories I have listened to, this could be any of us, wrongly accused of a serious crime and our lives ripped apart as a result. I am so happy that this podcast exists and is finally telling the true story of what happened to Sayeed, Halawa and their precious family unit. Honestly, this true crime podcast will have your blood boiling with rage, horror and sheer disbelief.

All six episodes plus a bonus episode are available now.

2. Crime World Presents: Groomed - Control, Coercion and the cold-hearted murder of showjumper Katie Simpson - Hosted By Nicola Tallant - Sunday World.

Nicola Tallant and the Crime World team are once again bringing us another fantastic Irish true crime podcast series. Across nine episodes Groomed investigates the devastating murder of Irish showjumper Katie Simpson. Katie Simpson was only 21 years old when she was murdered by 36 year-old Jonathon Creswell after living through a long period of coercive control, intimidation and violence at his hands.

“This narrative plunges into the dark world of a charismatic yet deeply depraved horseman who cultivated a cult-like control over multiple women, including Katie, her sister Christina, Jill Robinson, Hayley Robb, and Rose De Montmorency Wright. Despite a history of violence, chillingly previewed by the abuse of a former partner, Olympic showjumper Abigail Lyle, Creswell remained untouchable within the privileged equestrian community. It took the relentless efforts of a determined journalist and others to expose the truth, even as Creswell’s own dramatic suicide during his murder trial left his accomplices to face justice alone.” (Source here).

In this Irish true crime podcast Nicola Tallant and team speak with the journalist who was integral to the investigation and never wavered from her belief that Katie Simpson was murdered by Creswell. Additionally, we hear from Katie’s friends who are still shocked and grieving. Previous victims of Creswell also speak with Nicola and paint a very clear picture of the nasty and cruel person he was.

All nine episodes are already available.

3. Assume Nothing: Murder At The Stables - Hosted By Susan Lynch - BBC Radio Ulster.

This is slightly unusual and I think the first time I have done this, but this true crime podcast also investigates the murder of Katie Simpson but this time it is from the highly regarded team at BBC Radio Ulster.

In Assume Nothing: Murder at the Stables we hear from different people who were also involved in and connected with this case and it provides us with alternative viewpoints, additional facts and more behind the scenes information about this case.

“Detective Sergeant James Brannigan is able to speak to this series for the first time. He reveals how a call from journalist Tanya Fowles leads him to review the evidence gathered so far by his police colleagues into the murder. The more he uncovers, the more he believes an investigation is needed. He’s just got to convince his senior officers.” (Source here).

Obviously I believe it is also worth listening to this true crime podcast or it wouldn’t be on this list! All fifteen episodes are available now.

4. Delve: Diagnosis of a Crime - Melanie Reid Investigates - newsroom.co.nz.

I am a big fan of Melanie Reid and her latest true crime podcast Delve: Diagnosis of a Crime follows on from the previous seasons of her true crime podcast Fractured - Season One and Fractured - Season Two which also investigated incidents in which parents were wrongly accused of physically harming their child(ren) resulting in the child(ren) being taken from them and the parents facing criminal charges.

In this new true crime podcast, Melanie Reid is once again standing up for the parents who have been wronged by child protective services and the judicial system in New Zealand:

“Imagine taking your baby to hospital and being told what’s wrong isn’t an illness or an accident, but a crime.” (Source here).

Reid asks:

“… is an insular medical system and the might of the Crown turning unexplained symptoms into devastating criminal accusations?” (Source here).

We hear directly from families who were the victims of wrongful accusations and had their lives torn apart as a result. We also hear from families who are currently going through this ordeal, with court trials for their “crimes” looming, putting huge emotional and massive financial strain on them. Everything is on the line.

The stories are real, raw and poignant. These true stories will break your heart. There are twelve episodes available now.

5. Mind of A Monster: The Killer Nurse (Season Seven) - Hosted By Dr. Michelle Ward - ID.

If you liked some of my previously featured medical related true crime podcast then be sure to check out this six-part true crime podcast Mind of a Monster: The Killer Nurse in which host Dr. Michelle Ward takes us through the life and crimes of “one of the US’s most prolific, but not widely known, serial killers.”

Ward speaks with:

“… families of the victims, colleagues of the perpetrator, criminology experts and detectives from the case, uncovering testimonies and confessions, trial transcripts and news reports, all to reveal who was responsible for the rise in deaths on Ward C.” (Source here).

Kristen Gilbert is the “killer nurse” in question. Between 1989 and 1995 Gilburt murdered four patients while working in the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Centre in Massachusetts, USA.

Ward deep dives into Gilbert’s story, from her early years growing up in Groton, Massachusetts, right up to when her criminal behaviour began and escalated in her place of work. This is a captivating true crime story that will keep you listening.

All six episodes are available now.

6. Out From The Cold: Searching For Elaine - Happy Tuesday Productions.

Out From The Cold: Searching For Elaine is an investigative series into the disappearance of Sydney schoolgirl Elaine Johnson. When 16 year-old Elaine Johnson and her close friend 17 year-old Kerry Ann Joel first disappeared in January 1980 the Police treated it as a runway case. However, over forty years later Elaine and Kerry are still missing. Elaine’s family have always maintained that Elaine would not willingly disappear forever and have continued to search relentlessly for answers; Where is Elaine? What happened to Elaine?.

“The eldest of five children, she had lived in Kurnell and Cronulla after her family moved to Australia from the UK as Ten Pound Poms. She grew up riding bikes, sunbaking and watching Monty Python on TV. In the weeks leading up to her disappearance, Elaine left home after an argument over a house party. It is believed she stayed with her friend, Kerry Anne Joel. Neither Elaine or Kerry has been seen since February 1980.” (Source here).

There is so much information in this true crime podcast, we really learn about Elaine’s life prior to her disappearance and we hear from lots of people who knew Elaine as well as her brokenhearted family.

This is one true crime podcast that I binged in a day as all eight episodes were already released when I discovered this podcast - I recommend you do the same!

7. Diagnosing Murder - Hosted By Michael Bachelard & Ruby Schwartz - The Age and Sydney Morning Herald.

Over four episodes Diagnosing Murder investigates the veracity of “shaken baby syndrome”; is this a real condition or an outdated theory.

“Since the 1970s, shaken baby syndrome has been seen as a clear indicator of child abuse. But internationally over the past three decades, this medical orthodoxy has come under increasing scrutiny. A growing number of doctors, scientists, and lawyers has challenged the diagnosis, claiming it’s been responsible for numerous miscarriages of justice.” (Source here).

In this Australian true crime investigation, the hosts are focused on Australia and the impacts that the diagnosis of this syndrome has on the children and parents of these children:

“In Australia, though, these questions have barely been raised. Courts largely accept the evidence of influential experts. Children are being removed from parents, and convictions, and lengthy sentences often follow. Now, in Australia, dissenting voices have begun to emerge. They’re suggesting our approach is dangerously flawed.” (Source here).

This true crime podcast ties in quite well with the previously discussed number four on this list Delve: Diagnosis of a Crime podcast. We once again hear from the parents of children accused of shaking their babies as well as from medical experts who are astounded that shaken baby syndrome is still so widely diagnosed/accepted when the evidence behind it is flawed and outdated.

All four episodes are available.

8. World of Secrets: Death in Dubai - BBC.

World of Secrets: Death in Dubai begins with the suspicious death of Ugandan Mona Kizz in Dubai.

Aged just twenty-three, Mona Kizz died after a fall from a Dubai tower block. It isn’t long before Mona’s death is trending worldwide but not just because of how she died, but because of the cruel hashtag of #DubaiPortaPotty that has been associated with her and leads to:

“… parodies and speculative exposés of women suspected of being paid by men to be their human toilet. But behind the online rumours lies an even darker reality.” (Source here).

As you can imagine, Mona’s death was devastating for her family, many of whom were in Uganda when they received the news, but of course their loss was amplified and exacerbated by the trending hashtag and rumours about their beloved Mona that spread like wildfire.

Over six episodes we hear from Mona’s family, friends and associates and the story that is told is shocking, disturbing and most definitely criminal. All six episodes have already been released.

9. Vanished: What Happened to Vanessa? - Hosted By John Quiñones - ABC News.

This six-part series investigates the disappearance and subsequently the murder of Fort Hood soldier 20 year-old Vanessa Guillén. From the beginning, the military’s response to Vanessa’s disappearance, from her job at the military base, was lack lustre but Vanessa’s family were suspicious immediately. Their perseverance ensured that Vanessa’s case was given the attention and expertise needed to solve it.

“The search for Vanessa starts to stretch over days, then weeks, and her family grows frustrated and finds their own ways to bring awareness to Vanessa’s case. Meanwhile, the military’s investigation is hindered by early missteps.” (Source here).

A tragic true crime story told with care and attention. All six episodes plus one bonus episode are available now.

10. Assume Nothing: Creation of a Teenage Satanist - Hosted By Jo Palmer - BBC Sounds.

764 - Does this number mean anything to you? - Well, in this true crime podcast host Jo Palmer is revealing all she knows about a far right Satanist group called 764.

Assume Nothing: Creation of a Teenage Satanist is a four-part investigative series into:

“… a terrorist organisation who believe ‘no lives matter.’ They search for and extort children and young people, with deadly results.” (Source here).

A really interesting and extremely eye-opening and informative true crime podcast that is definitely best binged, all four episodes in one sitting!

11. Heists, Scams and Lies: The Lost Caribbean Millions - The Crime Desk.

Ending my top true crime podcasts of October with a con-artist! Let me introduce you to twice-bankrupt David Ames. Ames has big dreams, through his company Harlequin, Ames promises to build a luxury resort in the Caribbean but at a bargain price, enabling the “everyday” person to get in on the deal of a lifetime. Not a bad idea but unfortunately the idea is the best part, the execution of it… not so good:

“Over nearly a decade, more than 8,000 people handed over £400 million. Many bet their entire pension pots on Ames’ vision. But behind Ames’ slick marketing pitch lay financial chaos and systematic deception. While investors waited for dream properties, their money funded pirate ships, imported sand that washed away with the tide, and eye-watering sales commissions.” (Source here).

This true crime con-artist podcast features interviews with some of the investors in this scheme as well as some of the investigators who went after Ames and his company Harlequin. An entertaining true crime podcast and all five episodes have already been released.
