12 Best New True Crime Podcasts of November & December 2024
While I started a November 2024 true crime podcast recommendations list… I never finished it and then December came and went and well here we are… January 2025! So, before I move onto my latest January 2025 true crime podcast recommendations I need to do one last 2024 list as I listened to some great ones towards the end of the year. I am also including some true crime podcasts that I may have overlooked in previous blogs for 2024 but are worth checking out.
1. Double Cross: The Murder of Robbie Lawlor - Crime World Presents - Hosted By Nicola Tallant - Sunday World.
This new investigative true crime podcast series is based on Nicola Tallant’s best selling book ‘Web of Betrayal’ and deserves to be top of the recommendations list for November and December - it is captivating!
As always, Nicola and her investigative team leave no stone unturned as they take us through Irish criminal activities in the years prior to the murder of Robbie Lawlor and what ultimately led to him being gunned down.
“The podcast details how, as Ireland went into its first full lockdown, in the wake of the outbreak of the coronavirus in 2020, news broke in April of that year that a major gangland figure had been executed in the front garden of a house in the Ardoyne area in North Belfast.” (Source here).
Lawlor was shot and killed in Belfast on April 4th 2020. He was a known criminal and it seems all his previous activities, deceitful behaviour and betrayals caught up with him on this day.
“He was a prolific and violent criminal, suspected of several gangland murders and heavily involved in the brutal Drogheda feud. He was also believed to be behind one of the most vile and disturbing assassinations this country has ever seen.” (Source here).
If you want to deep-dive into Ireland’s criminal/gangland scene at this time, then this is the true crime podcast for you. I am a big fan of Nicola Tallant and her work and this podcast is another massive YES from me.
There are eight episodes already available so, luckily for you, you can binge the lot!
2. Uncover: Bad Results - Hosted By Jorge Barrera & Rachel Houlihan - CBC.
If you have followed this blog for a while you will know that I love medical based true crime and Uncover: Bad Results really hits the spot.
In this true crime podcast we hear from the many victims of DNA testing facility which advertised “99.9% accuracy” for all their paternity tests but in reality they frequently got it wrong:
“They needed certainty. They got chaos. For over a decade, countless people from at least five different countries put their trust in a company offering prenatal paternity tests. It promised clients “99.9% accuracy” — but then routinely, for over a decade, identified the wrong biological fathers.” (Source here).
The hosts investigates the DNA testing facility at the heart of these issues/claims, past employees are interviewed and some shocking information is uncovered. The consequences of these incorrect paternity test results are massive and far reaching. Many of the victims take legal action against the company.
I’m leaving it there as I don’t want to give any (more) spoilers! All six episodes are available now.
A note to say that I have included this as a true crime podcast due to the nature of the content. The DNA company and its founder have denied all claims and strongly believe user error is to blame for the incorrect test results.
3. Just Married: The Anthea Bradshaw Mystery - Hosted By Ben Avery - 9Podcasts.
In this ten-part true crime podcast series, host Ben Avery is investigating the 1994 mysterious and unsolved murder of newly wed Anthea Bradshaw at her home in Brunei, Southeast Asia.
“In April 1994, Anthea Bradshaw married her high school sweetheart in a beautiful Adelaide wedding. 96 days later, she was found lifeless in a pool of blood, half a world away from home, in Brunei, South East Asia.” (Source here).
Host Ben Avery starts his journey investigating Anthea’s murder by going back in time, back to when Anthea first met her future husband, their college years and so on. As their lives progress so does this story and the murder investigation kicks in. A lot of new information about Anthea’s husband and his potential connection to her murder is presented. Old work colleagues and friends of the couple when they lived in Brunei are interviewed and theories are offered up.
There is so much more to this obscure and perplexing true crime event. All ten episodes are available now and that is a good thing, as I predict that once you start listening you might just find it hard to switch off.
4. World of Secrets: The Bad Guru - Hosted By Cat McShane - BBC.
Another cracking true crime podcast series from the BBC has arrived. World of Secrets: The Bad Guru investigates a “yoga guru” whose practices went way beyond yoga instruction and all that the discipline of yoga entails and embodies. This was an:
“… international yoga movement headed by Gregorian Bivolaru, the spiritual guide arrested by French police in November 2023 and charged with human trafficking, organised kidnapping, rape and organised abuse of weakness by members of a sect.” (Source - podcast description Spotify).
We hear from a past member of the London branch of this yoga school by the name of Miranda. As Miranda’s story unfolds it becomes more and more shocking and disturbing. It’s not long before others come forward and reinforce the story that Miranda is telling. A gripping true crime podcast that is sure to have you hooked from the first episode.
All six episodes are out now.
5. Rotten Apple - By Camille Bianchi & Amelia Saw - 9Podcasts.
Way back in my October 2020 Podcast Recommendations blog I featured a podcast called The Nurse and this new true crime podcast Rotten Apple is a follow up or “sister podcast” to it.
The name of this true crime podcast hints to what it is about, the “rotten apple”:
“They were once hailed as town heroes, individuals who dominated every sphere and commanded every room. However, the rot set in when they exploited their power to manipulate entire communities and prey on the most vulnerable. How did these abuses go undetected for so long? Why were credible reports silenced for so many years?.” (Source here).
Host Camille Bianchi is on a mission to uncover, expose and warn others about the “rotten apples” that have become known to her:
“From Tasmania and beyond, this podcast series reveals the conditions these bad apples need to thrive across communities, and what happens to the whistleblowers who refuse to look the other way. It uncovers harrowing stories of abuse while shining a light on the courageous individuals who bravely share their truths.” (Source here).
This is a very detailed and encompassing true crime podcast dealing with child sexual abuse in Australia and so it won’t be for everyone. It is a truly shocking investigative series which highlights the prevalence of child sexual abuse in a multitude of public spheres.
There are eight episodes available now.
6. The Lost Boy - Hosted By Michael Wright & Shannon Redstall - Stuff Audio.
In March 2015 John Beckenridge abducted his stepson Mike from Southland, New Zealand. Beckenridge’s car was found at the bottom of a cliff at Curio Bay but no bodies were never recovered. This led the NZ Police, as well as family and friends of Beckenridge and his ex-wife Fiona Lu (mother to Mike), to speculate that he and his stepson were not dead but had in-fact staged their deaths were now on the run. There are so many theories surrounding their disappearance, all of which are discussed and dissected in this true crime podcast.
In The Lost Boy true crime podcast we first hear the background to this story which of course is integral to understanding how and why John Beckenridge abducted his stepson.
I was absolutely glued to this true crime podcast especially as there is yet to be a resolution. I hope that this podcast might result in new leads or information and that Mike’s mother can be reunited with her son.
All seven episodes are available.
7. The Unforgotten: Unnatural Causes (Season Two) - Hosted By Carol Dawson, Charlie Scudder & Wes Ferguson - Free Range Productions.
In The Unforgotten: Unnatural Causes the hosts are investigating “the worst serial killer in Dallas history” and it is an unfathomable story to say the least.
“In 2016, healthy, active women began to drop dead in Dallas’s most exclusive senior living communities and their own homes. Because of their age and where they lived, officials assumed that heart attacks, strokes and other natural causes were to blame. It wasn’t until years later, after a woman survived and told police she’d been attacked by a man who tried to smother her with a pillow, that police realized what was actually happening. One of Texas’s most prolific serial killers had gone completely undetected. Why were officials so quick to brush aside the deaths as natural? How did the killer use the cracks of a broken system to target some of society’s most vulnerable people? And how can we be sure it doesn’t happen again?.” (Source here).
There are so many great interviews in this true crime podcast that really help to emphasize the experiences of all those who were affected, not only by horrific actions of the serial killer, but by the subsequent lack of action by the care home staff/owners and the police.
This is a story that needs to be heard and the hosts do an excellent job with this true crime podcast.
You can listen to all nine episodes right now.
8. Severed Affair: The Gruesome Murder of Shad Thyrion - Law & Crime - Wondery.
This is a true crime podcast that I overlooked in my previous 2024 blogs, it was released in January 2024. Across five episodes, this true crime podcast outlines the brutal February 2022 murder of Shad Thyrion. Shad Thyrion was murdered by his then girlfriend Taylor Schabusiness and his mutilated body was found in his parents basement. This true crime podcast is undeniably not for the “faint of heart” due to the nature of the murder that took place.
This podcast:
“… uses exclusive audio and court footage to piece together the gruesome story.” (Source here).
We hear from Shad Tyrion’s devastated parents, their frantic 911 calls and everything that followed. The taped recordings of the Police interviews with Taylor Schabusiness are mind-blowing.
You can listen to all five episodes now.
9. Where is Erin? - 48Hours & NCIS - Hosted By Natalie Morales - CBS News.
In this six-part true crime series, host Natalie Morales tells us the story of the life and death of Erin Corwin.
“Erin Corwin was a girl from small town Tennessee when she moved across the country to live with her husband, Corporal John Corwin, on a desert Marine base. They were high school sweethearts, young and in love. But less than a year later, Erin disappears.” (Source here).
At just 19 years of age, Erin Corwin disappeared in California’s Joshua Tree National Park. As the investigation into her disappearance begins, questions are asked, the most significant being “Who was with Erin at Joshua Tree National Park when she disappeared?” - this will be the key to solving this case.
With all six episodes available you won’t have to wait to find out how this true crime event unfolds, get listening now!
10. Fear Thy Neighbor - ID.
If you like to just dip in and out of true crime podcasts then Fear Thy Neighbor is the perfect podcast for you. Each episode is approximately 45 minutes long and covers a different story so you can pick and choose which ones you want to listen to with no obligation to listen to an entire series!
As the title hints, Fear Thy Neighbor tells true crime stories involving neighbors:
“What would you do if the person you feared most… was living right next door? On Fear Thy Neighbor, we dive deep into stranger than fiction stories about neighbors gone wrong. We’ll hear these true stories as told by the victims, their families and their neighbors… featuring real 911 calls and surveillance archives. Tune in to hear what happens when simple issues turns into living nightmares with horrific and often fatal consequences.” (Source here).
In a country (USA) that is known for its gun crime and high rates of gun ownership you can imagine how these neighborhood feuds frequently come to an abrupt ending. If you are tight on time but need a true crime fix then this is the true crime podcast for you.
There are ten episodes already available with new episodes released weekly.
I am using the US spelling of neighbor here as this show is from the US and the title is spelt this way.
11. Elon’s Spies - By Alex Mostrous & Gary Marshall - Tortoise Media.
I guess the clue to the topic covered in this true crime podcast is in the name Elon’s Spies. Yes, this podcast is all about Elon Musk’s alleged spies. Love him or hate him (or somewhere in-between) he is undeniably one of the most powerful and influential men in the world right now. He is the King of Space X and Tesla, Donald Trump’s right hand man and apparently “besties” with Kim Kardashian but this true crime podcast isn’t bothered with any of that, instead Elon’s Spies investigates:
“… how this free-speech champion uses private investigators and surveillance to target everyone from whistleblowers at his companies, to online critics and people in his own life.” (Source here).
Honestly, I found this podcast so interesting. I admire Elon Musk for all he has achieved so far and I expect there are far greater things to come. What I had not considered was what goes on in the background, in the shadows so to speak, when you have unlimited access to money and thus unlimited unchecked power.
As I forgot to include this true crime podcast in my 11 Top New True Podcasts of October 2024 blog, all four episodes are already available.
12. Delve: Powder Keg (Season 5) - Hosted By Jonathan Milne - newsroom.co.nz.
I am ending this list with another fascinating investigation. Although this podcast has categorised itself as “true crime & documentary”, its definitely less in your face true crime then the other podcasts on this list and more documentary but absolutely worth checking out.
If like me you are constantly bombarded with adverts for AG1 across social media channels, through influencers and famous sportspersons (Lewis Hamilton being one of many) then you need to listen to this podcast!
Host, investigative journalist and New Zealander Jonathan Milne (whose voice I could listen to endlessly) is investigating fellow New Zealander Chris Ashenden and his uber successful supplement AG1. However, while the supplement AG1 is well known, the man behind it remains relatively unknown in his home country of New Zealand - Why?
“The global supplement market is worth $200 billion a year, and Chris Ashenden is a rock star of the industry. Yet in his home country of New Zealand, nobody had heard of him.” (Source here).
With this at the forefront of his mind Milne sets out to simply do a bio/article about a fellow New Zealander and successful businessman Chris Ashenden. However, Ashenden was less than keen to speak to him and this set off Milne’s radar for a juicy story:
“In the latest electrifying podcast from DELVE, we investigate the superstar endorsements, the science and the safety of the world’s favourite green powder, AG1. Listen to a story that will entangle the biggest names in audio, from Joe Rogan to Andrew Huberman to Gwyneth Paltrow. We follow the money, dig into the crimes and commission our own lab analysis. From the chill of the Southern Ocean to a record Mexican heatwave, from Colombia to the Caribbean, we chase down AG1’s founder to tell the story he didn’t want told.” (Source here).
Milne digs into Ashenden’s life before he became what he is today. What Milne discovers begins to explain why Ashenden may not be that well liked (or high profile) in New Zealand. Milne also uncovers some very interesting facts about the global supplement market and specifically about AG1 and its ingredients, its manufacturing and future.
I could not wait to hear how this story would unfold, waiting for my weekly episode fix, but lucky for you, you don’t have to, all eleven episodes are out now!
