9 Top New True Crime Podcasts of August 2026

I am so behind on updating noroadlongenough so there is no time for small talk here - lets get straight into it!

1. The Poisoned Wife - By Hedley Thomas & Karina Berger & Rex Bakes - The Australian.

Of course the brand new Australian true crime podcast from my favourite Australian Hedley Thomas had to be number one on my August list - I had been waiting for this one for a while!

In The Poisoned Wife podcast, hosts and investigators Hedley, Karina and Rex are investigating the mysterious death of Rosslyn McQueen in 1986. Rosslyn was only thirty years old when she was killed via poisoning, with her “toxicology report finding she had died from a massive dose of strychnine”. At the time of her death, Rosslyn was five months pregnant with a much wanted second child, a baby boy, and she was a loving mother to her toddler daughter. Rosslyn was found dead inside her home in Lockwood, near Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.

Needless to say, Rosslyn’s death left everyone, except perhaps her husband Ray, with a lot of unanswered questions and those who knew and loved Rosslyn always suspected that she was a victim of murder. While her husband Ray McQueen was eventually charged with her murder, the case never made it to trial. Ray McQueen has always maintained his innocence.

Forty years later, can Hedley and his team get to the bottom of this cold case, potentially uncover new evidence and finally get justice for Rosslyn McQueen?

The first ten episodes are out now so there is lots for you to get stuck into before more episodes drop!

2. Swiss Murder Mysteries: The Belshaw Case (Season 3) - By Rudolph Isler - Playground Media Productions.

Rudolph Isler is back with another excellent Swiss true crime mystery podcast and I think this season (three) is Rudolph’s best so far!

Swiss Murder Mysteries: The Belshaw Case deep dives into the intriguing case of the disappearance and subsequent murder of Betty Belshaw in 1979. Prior to her disappearance, Betty and her husband Cyril Belshaw were spending time in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. From there they took a short trip to Paris and it was there, in Paris, that Betty disappeared, as reported by her husband Cyril. However, when Betty’s body was discovered three months later on a remote alpine pass in Switzerland, less than 100 kilometres from Crans-Montana (and no where near Paris), serious doubt and suspicion (rightly so) was cast upon Cyril Belshaw’s account of where, when and how his wife Betty disappeared.

In this absolutely riveting true crime podcast we join host Rudolph Isler on his journey to uncover and present us with all the facts of this case. I honestly could not stop listening and waited impatiently for each episode to be released. BUT the one advantage of me being way behind on my true crime podcast blogs is that all five episodes of this podcast are available now so you don’t have to wait! So get downloading, get them queued up and get listening and thank me later!!

3. Death of an Artist: Petra Mathers and Her Michael (Season 3) - By Leon Neyfakh & Alice Gregory - Pushkin Industries.

Having listened to and enjoyed the first two seasons of this true crime podcast, I have to say that this latest season (three) is my favourite so far.

In Death of an Artist: Petra Mathers and Her Michael we learn of the 2024 death of children’s book author Petra Mathers and her photographer husband Michael Mathers via suicide. Their suicides were well planned. Both Petra and Michael had all “their affairs” in order and one by one, dozens of their family members and friends began to receive letters from the couple informing them that by the time they were reading the letter, they would have died by suicide.

The hosts of this true crime podcast set out to interview all those who received a letter and try to piece together what was really going on in the lives of Petra and Michael in the lead up to their deaths.

“Through intimate conversations with Petra and Michael’s friends and family about their own relationships to aging, grief, death, and the friends they thought they knew, Death of an Artist weaves together a portrait of a community grappling with the Mathers’ deaths and the final words they left behind.” (Source here).

This is a really gripping podcast that will have you hooked from the start. All six episodes are available now.

4. Delve: The Murder of Andew Bagshaw (Series 11) - By Bryan Bruce - newsroom.co.nz.

The Delve team have never let me down with any of their true crime podcasts and Delve: The Murder of Andrew Bagshaw certainly lives up to their stellar reputation.

Over six episodes host Bryan Bruce investigates the 2023 disappearance and murder of New Zealander Dr. Andrew Bagshaw (an accomplished genetic scientist) in Ukraine. Dr. Andrew Bagshaw went on a humanitarian mission to war-torn Ukraine and assisted in the rescue of more than five hundred people under attack from Russia before he disappeared and was murdered.

This is a very complex and mysterious true crime case that seeks to understand:

“What drove a Kiwi with no military background to risk his life in a war zone?” (Source here).

Through interviews with Andrew’s parents we get a real picture of the person Andrew, their beloved son, was and host Bryan Bruce reveals the story of:

“… a quiet, intensely private man driven by a powerful sense of ethical responsibility.” (Source here).

All six episodes are out now.

5. Witness: Perfect Alibi (Season 4) - By Jo Townsend & Callum Denness - news.com.au.

The team behind Witness are another Australian true crime podcast producer than you can count on (they brought us the excellent true crime podcast Witness: William Tyrrell) so I was very happy to see a brand new true crime podcast from them appear on my feed.

Across six episodes the true crime podcast Witness: Perfect Alibi investigates what happened to Leslie Ball who vanished more than thirty years ago from Townsville, Queensland, Australia.

Despite numerous police investigation and two coronial inquests, the truth about what happened to Leslie Ball remains unknown.

Join hosts Jo Townend and Callum Denness as they try to finally reveal what happened to Leslie Ball. Family members are interviewed and new evidence is uncovered but is this enough to solve this cold case once and for all?

There are six episodes available so far and as this case develops we await further episodes/updates! Another great Australian true crime podcast that you simply won’t be able to turn off once you start!

6. The Truth About Natalie - Hosted By Sean Kipe - Audiochuck.

The Truth About Natalie is a true crime investigative podcast in which host Sean Kipe examines the suspicious death of Natalie Jones. Natalie Jones was only twenty-nine and mother of two when she disappeared following a July 4th lake party in Alabama in 2020. Unfortunately:

“Ninety-three days later, her car and her remains were found in a rural Georgia field. No arrest. No clear answer. No closure for the family left behind. The official theory was an accidental overdose. But a negative toxicology report, a drug baggie with no fingerprints, and a phone that never left Natalie’s hand — one that’s still missing — tell a different story.” (Source here).

There are so many twists and turns in this true crime story. Hearing from Natalie’s mother really adds value to this podcast as we learn about the real Natalie and the struggles she faced throughout her life.

All six episodes are out now and you already know what I am going to say - you are going to want to binge all six!

7. What Happened To… Desmond “Des” Carr? - Hosted By Jay Walkerden - Podshape.

What Happened To… is a relatively new Australian true crime podcast, launched in May 2026 and I have been hooked ever since. This is a true crime podcast that is dedicated to:

“… to sharing the stories of missing people across Australia, with a focus on lesser-known cases that deserve more attention. Each episode explores a new story, helping families keep their loved one’s name in the public conversation and raising awareness in the hope that someone, somewhere, may know something.” (Source here).

Some episodes are stand alone while others are “mini-series”. In July I featured the story of What Happened to … Jorn Jasper Jensen?.

This is the second mini-series from What Happened To and this time they are investigating the disappearance of Desmond “Des” Carr.

Des disappeared on August 2nd 1979. Des finished his shift as a “road worker”, driving a steam roller and vanished from a remote stretch of highway near Kimberly, Western Australia.

Since the first five episodes of this Australian true crime podcast aired, new witnesses have come forward and new leads and evidence has been uncovered which has led to two bonus episodes and finally a coronial inquest! Also, a close connection between the host of this podcast and Des is revealed!

8. Swingers - Hosted By Catrin Nye - BBC Radio Wales.

Swingers is a the brand new documentary style podcast from Catrin Nye (who also brought us the excellent A Very British Cult true crime podcast in 2023) that I had to include on this list as there is a distinct true crime element to this podcast!

Across six episodes, Ruth tells us her story, a heartbreaking and shocking story of how she joined a swingers website and ended up having degrading sex with strangers more than one hundred times. Why did she do this? Well, as you have probably already guessed, Ruth did this to keep her husband happy, to “please” him, and once she signed up to the website he took full advantage of the situation and controlled everything.

Hearing directly from Ruth, you quickly realise that she was the victim of coercive control at the hands of her “loving” husband. A truly heart breaking story that will stay with you long after you stop listening.

All six episodes are out now.

9. Pretend: The Gypsy Rose Obsession - Javier Leiva.

Like most people who are into true crime, I’ve heard of Gypsy Rose and her “true crime story”. Of late, I knew she had served her prison time, had been released and had a child but otherwise she wasn’t even remotely on my radar. However, I am a fan of the Pretend podcast so when I saw that Javier Leiva was covering her story I figured there must be something going on - I certainly didn’t realise how completely obsessed people are with Gypsy Rose!

Over ten episodes we hear the whole Gypsy Rose story and the best part is, we hear directly from Gypsy Rose herself! So, if like me, you are “Gypsy Curious” then this is a great listen and its a little lighter than some of the other true crime podcasts on this list. Check it out!
