Top 7 New True Crime Podcasts of March 2022:
I am back with seven gripping new true crime Podcasts for March 2022 - I hope you enjoy them too!
1. Twin Flames - Hosted By Stephanie Bestriz - Wondery.
In this Podcast, we learn all about the Twin Flames dating platform that was founded and created by couple Jeff and Shaleia Ayan that promises to help you find your soulmate, your true love, your true twin flame!
“We all want love, that happily-ever-after feeling of finding your soulmate. What if someone not only claimed they could help you find that perfect partner, they guaranteed it? Jeff and Shaleia, a young couple famous on YouTube, teach about ‘Twin Flames’ — a deep, romantic connection with your perfect partner in their videos. It’s divine love, you’re designed for no one else, and they’re designed for no one else.” (Source here).
Of course what Twin Flames advertises itself as and what it actually turns out to be are two very different things and this quickly becomes apparent:
“… the path to finding your Twin Flame isn’t so simple. Some followers claim they were encouraged to cut ties with friends and family that are holding them back, and to claim their Twin Flame by any means necessary. From Wondery, Twin Flames is a podcast about what happens when the quest for love turns into a dangerous obsession.” (Source here).
If you like cult related Podcasts then I think you will love this Podcast! While Twin Flames leaders and members might not be a cult they come pretty close to it with their cultish ways!
For any Brooklyn Nine-Nine TV show fans, this Podcast is presented by Stephanie Beatriz who plays the character Rosa Diaz in the show.
There are currently three episodes available.
2. Big Brother: North Korea’s Forgotten Prince - iHeartPodcasts.
This Podcast begins with the murder of an unknown man at an airport and it is one crazy story from there:
“When a man is mysteriously murdered at an airport, investigators discover a fake passport, $120,000 in cash, and traces of the world’s most deadly chemical weapon. Who was this victim? And why was North Korea so hellbent on killing him? The answers spark a diplomatic crisis of international proportions—and lead police to a pair of unwitting pranksters.” (Source here).
This is the story of Kim Jong-nam, his crazy and blatant assassination and the events that led up to this event:
“Kim Jong-nam should be the ruler of North Korea. Instead, he was the victim of the 21st century’s most bizarre assassination plot. A deep look inside a decades-long saga broiling with deceit, palace gossip, and political backstabbing—shedding light on the machinations of the most secretive nation on the planet.” (Source here).
There are only two episodes available so far - I can’t wait for more!
3. Yuba County Five - Hosted by Shannon McGarvey - Mopac Audio.
Yuba County Five is a new true crime Podcast series from Mopac Audio this time investigating the 1978 disappearance of five male adults, last seen in a remote area of the then snow covered Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California.
“On February 24, 1978, five men from the Yuba County, California-area vanished in the wilderness of Northern California. They had set out on what should’ve been a quick road trip to watch their favorite basketball team in a neighboring town. But all five friends wound up missing or dead.” (Source here).
This is a gripping and very mysterious story. We hear from lots of family and friends of the missing men as well as from the Police who were involved in the case. There are so many theories and scenarios put forward but will they even uncover what truly occurred?
There are three episodes available now.
Another great true crime Podcast from Mopac Audio is An Absurd Result.
4. The Pink Moon Murders - Hosted By David Raterman - Cavalry Audio & iHeartPodcasts.
The Pink Moon Murders Podcast focuses on the 2016 murder of eight members of the Rhoden family in rural Appalachian Ohio. We hear from some of the surviving members of the Rhoden family and their friends in this Podcast and wonder who could commit such brutal killings and why?
The host David Raterman is a journalist and spent 18 months researching this Podcast. As well as the aforementioned interviews with family and friends of the victims, David also:
“… spoke with prosecutors and police officers who were officially gagged by the judge, visited the crime scenes countless times, and pored through records at courthouses throughout the region.” (Source here).
Even though many of you will be familiar with this case, I do not want to give any spoilers for those who may not be and so I will leave it there - just to say you can expect some big surprises!
Three episodes are available now.
5. My Sister’s Secrets - Hosted By Virginia Tapscott & Steve Jackson for The Australian.
The My Sister’s Secrets Podcast is a new true crime Podcast from The Australian. In this Podcast we hear from Virginia Tapscott who is on a mission to:
“… to uncover her family’s darkest truth - and shine a light on the secrets in all our families.” (Source here).
Virginia’s sister Alexandra was only 32 years old when she took her own life. Alexandra was the victim sexual assaults both as a child and again as a young adult by two different family members and these experiences changed her irreversibly. Through her investigation into Alexandra’s life and death Virginia realises just how much of the story she did not previously know and that the abuse was a lot worse then what she had always thought. She draws attention to the question:
“What happens when you expose sex offenders within your own family?… how far people will go to bury the truth?…” (Source here).
This is a gripping Podcast. It is well presented and produced and Virginia is an excellent host; the strength and resilience she shows throughout the Podcast is commendable.
There are currently five episodes available.
6. Fairy Meadow - Hosted By Jon Kay - BBC Radio 4.
BBC Radio 4 brings us this next great Podcast. This true crime Podcast focuses on the January 12th 1970 disappearance of three year old Cheryl Grimmer from the Fairy Meadow Beach in Wollongong, Illawarra, New South Wales, Australia.
“No-one knows what happened. Fifty years on - can the mystery be solved?” (Source here).
The Grimmer family were migrants to Australia from Bristol in the UK. Cheryl’s eldest brother Ricki was the last family member to see Cheryl on the day that she disappeared and he is a key participant in this investigative podcast series.
“This is the story of what really happens to a family after a child goes missing. It’s the story of Ricki’s guilt and how it has changed his life. And it is a story of a mystery that won’t go away.” (Source here).
Your heart will break for Ricki throughout this Podcast series, his feelings of guilt and despair are palpable.
This is the perfect true crime Podcast to binge and as there are eight episodes already available you will be able to do just that.
7. British Scandal: The Coughing Major - From Riches to Rags - Hosted By Alice Levine & Matt Forde - Wondery.
I can still see Charles Ingram, dressed in his rugby shirt and blue jeans answering questions from the “hot seat” of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? TV game-show, sitting across from then presenter Chris Tarrant. What I could not remember was what happened after Charles Ingram won the jackpot one million pounds but was accused of cheating to win it shortly thereafter; a heist in plain sight. I also did not remember (or did I ever know?) the background story to this whole scandal, including the fact that his wife Diana had been on the show (and won £32,000) before him? and that her brother Adrian Pollack had also been on the show and had also won £32,000 - How?!
If you also want to relive, remember or maybe hear this story in its entirety for the first time then this is a great, gripping and very entertaining Podcast that is perfect for you:
“Diana Ingram is obsessed with tv quizzes. So obsessed she persuades her reluctant husband – army Major Charles Ingram – to try for the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire hotseat. How far will they go in their quest to win a million pounds?” (Source here).
I absolutely loved the hosts of this show, there is great banter between them and I think they did a great job of presenting a fair overall picture of the “scandal”.
All three episodes are now available.
