7 Top New True Crime Podcasts of April 2025
Now back to my April 2025 list. These are the (other) true crime podcasts that have been keeping me busy for the last month! Something I think worth mentioning is the similarities between the first two true crime podcasts on the list below. Both of these true crime podcasts are investigating the unsolved murder of a 23 year old women, on opposite sides of world. These brutal murders shocked their respective communities and continue to cause hardship and heartache for the families and loved ones left behind as they fight for justice for the victims.
1. Crime World Presents: Evil Eye - Hosted By Nicola Tallant & Christy Mangan - Sunday World.
Its no secret that I am a massive fan of Nicola Tallant and this brand new true crime podcast from Nicola with Christy Mangan, investigating the 2005 unsolved murder of 23 year old Emer O’Loughlin at Ballybornagh, Tubber, Co. Clare is not to be missed.
In this true crime podcast we hear from Emer’s sister Pam. Pam takes us through everything that has happened in this unsolved case since 2005 and her epic and unfailing fight for justice for her beloved sister Emer. Honestly, the facts of this case, especially how the strongest suspect was able to get away before a thorough investigation could take place will have you shaking your head in disbelief - the sheer incompetence of it all.
This is an absolutely gripping true crime podcast. A heart breaking story that stays with you and I am sure, like me, you will be cheering fiercely for justice for Emer and her family.
The first seven episodes are already available and you are going to want to binge the lot.
2. Dear Rachelle - Hosted By Ashlea Hansen & Damian Loone - True Crime Australia.
Another fantastic new true crime podcast this month is Dear Rachelle which investigates the 2001 unsolved murder of 23 year old Rachelle Childs in Gerroa, south of Sydney, Australia.
The hosts of this show are working alongside Rachelle’s family (her younger sister Kristy in particular) and some ex-detectives in the hope of finally solving this violent murder. The facts of this case, the manner in which Rachelle was murdered and her body treated are absolutely abhorrent. I am not going to talk about that here but suffice to say that whoever committed this crime has extremely violent tendencies and thus they have to be regarded as a threat to society and need to be caught.
If you liked some of my other featured Australian true crime podcasts such as Bronwyn and The Lady Vanishes then you should definitely be listening to Dear Rachelle.
The first six episodes are available now.
3. REAL Presents: What Happened to Kirsty Maxwell - By Naomi Channell.
Naomi Channell is another firm favourite true crime podcaster of mine and I have featured her work many times. In her latest true crime series, Naomi is investigating the suspicious death of 27 year old Kirsty Maxwell. Kirsty died when she fell from a balcony of an apartment in Benidorm, Spain on April 29th 2017. Kirsty is originally from Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland and she was in Benidorm for a hen weekend when she died under mysterious circumstances.
This story is far from straight-forward. The initial Police investigation was extremely inadequate. It was riddled with missed opportunities and those in charge were quick to come to conclusions without any real thorough investigations taking place and following a minimal amount of evidence gathering:
“Spanish Police didn’t follow up exhaustive enquiries regarding evidence, like independent witnesses, and they didn’t progress forensics or CCTV footage.” (Source here).
In this six part series Naomi Channell leaves nothing unchecked as she strives to find out more about Kirsty’s mysterious death and uncover new evidence. All six episodes are available so clear your diary and get listening!
4. Death County PA - Hosted By Josh Vaughn - Wondery.
I really found this true crime podcast so enthralling, I binged all six episodes in one go (while gardening) on Wondery+ (which I pay for). The first four episodes are available on Spotify already though, so you have time to get caught up before the remaining two episodes are released there.
In Death County PA an investigation into a number of unexpected/unexplained deaths at Dauphin County Prison, Pennsylvania leads those behind the investigation to uncover a far bigger wide-scale problem that has been many years in the making:
“At the center of each episode of the new podcast, “Death County, PA,” is a dead body. In episode one, Ty’Rique Riley, 21. In episode two, Ishmail Thompson, 29. Both entered the Dauphin County prison in Pennsylvania relatively healthy but left in critical condition and then died in nearby hospitals.” (Source here).
I do not want to give “spoilers” about this podcast and the story is so detailed that it needs to be heard by you directly from those telling it - let me know what you think!
5. Heists, Scams & Lies: The Hunt For Tamara Ecclestone’s Diamonds - Hosted By George Odling & Andy Jehring - The Crime Desk.
If like me, you remember hearing about the 2019 robbery of Tamara Ecclestone’s London mansion, but you never knew the full details and always wondered what/how it happened, then this is the true crime podcast for you! This is another true crime podcast that I was glued to this month, waiting eagerly for the next episode to be released.
“It was supposed to be impenetrable. A palatial home on London’s Billionaires’ Row, guarded round-the-clock by ex-military security, in one of the most heavily-patrolled streets in the country. And yet, on a cold night in December 2019, a group of audacious thieves pulled off the perfect burglary, slipping inside the Kensington home of Formula 1 heiress, Tamara Ecclestone and vanishing into the night with an incredible £25 million in diamonds, cash, and jewellery.” (Source here).
In this podcast, hosts George Odling and Andy Jehring are investigating this heist and taking us along with them:
“… a years-long hunt for answers—knocking on doors across Europe, chasing leads in Serbia’s criminal underworld, and uncovering a story far more complex than anyone had imagined.” (Source here).
We hear from Tamara’s husband Jay Rutland. He gives us lots of interesting “insider” information, such as about the interior layout of their house, their day to day routines when they were in the house, details about their staff/employees, information about the damage that was done by the intruders and he even comments on how they messed up their home insurance policy leaving themselves seriously out of pocket after the robbery (to put it mildly). I think having Jay Rutland’s perspective on the robbery gives great value to this true crime podcast.
The first five episodes are available now.
6. The ABCs of Heston Russell - Hosted By Bryan Seymour - Acast.
WOW - this true crime podcast series was not what I expected at all but its SO good! Over seven episodes (all are available now) we are told the story of Heston Russell and no, I had never heard of Heston Russell before either, but that did not stop me from inhaling this true crime podcast in another binge session.
Heston Russell is a former Special Forces Commando Officer. He survived multiple deployments to Afghanistan. However, upon finishing up with the Special Forces and returning to civilian life back in Australia, Heston Russell’s Commando Unit was accused by the ABC of unspeakable war crimes and thus he faced his biggest battle yet - the battle to clear his name (and the rest of his Commando Unit), prove their innocence and ensure that those behind this outrageous and extremely harmful claims suffered consequences for their actions.
This story is packed full of shocking twists and turns that will leave you stunned and appalled. Get listening now!
7. Trained To Kill: The Dog Trainer, the Heiress and the Bodyguard - Hosted By Peter Van Sant - Forty Eight Hours/CBC News.
Do love triangles ever end well?. In this new six part true crime podcast series we hear the story of Mark Stover, Linda Opdyke and Michiel Oakes and as you have probably guessed, this story does not end well:
“Mark Stover was a talented dog trainer, better known as the dog whisperer of the Pacific Northwest. He was charismatic and attracted the attention of wealthy blonde heiress Linda Opdyke. They built a business together, along with a marriage. But Linda said Mark also had a dark side and when she tried to leave the marriage, he obsessively followed. She sought the protection of a security expert Michiel Oakes who soon became the new love of her life, her knight in shining armor. But when blood was found in Mark’s home and he was reported missing, detectives went looking for Michiel. In this dark love triangle, just who was the hunter and who was the hunted” (Source here).
Having listened to the complete series I honestly still cannot decide who/what I believe; who is telling the truth.
All six episodes are available now, I’d love to know if you think the outcome was the right one?
